As part of Storeplay's transition to RetailOS, changes are required for stores currently using Sonos as their playback method.
Why is this changing?
RetailOS uses a dedicated Storeplayer device that downloads and stores music locally. This provides a more reliable in-store experience and removes dependence on internet streaming.
Our previous Sonos integration setup relied on cloud-based playback, which can create issues in retail environments, including:
- Music interruptions or dropouts
- Playback not starting correctly
- Reduced reliability during internet outages or unstable connections
Moving to local playback improves consistency and provides a more reliable experience across your stores.
What does this mean for my store?
If your store currently uses Sonos as its playback method, your setup will require a small hardware upgrade before migrating to RetailOS.
Your existing Sonos speakers do not need to be replaced.
Only the connection method between Storeplayer and your Sonos system needs to change.

What is a Storeplayer?
A Storeplayer is Storeplay's dedicated playback device used with RetailOS.
Unlike streaming music directly over the internet, the Storeplayer downloads and stores your playlists locally on the device. This means music continues to play reliably even if your internet connection becomes slow or temporarily unavailable.
Storeplayer is designed specifically for retail and commercial environments and provides:
• Reliable local playback• Reduced dropouts and interruptions
• Centralized device management
• Improved stability across store networks
• Support for future RetailOS capabilities
The Storeplayer connects into your existing in-store audio setup and works alongside your speaker system. Please note: the Storeplayer does not replace your existing speakers. It replaces the playback method used to deliver music into your stores.
